Every Major League team compiles a daily packet of statistical stories known as Game Notes — an essential media asset produced for all 162 regular-season games. For the Guardians, the process meant manually referencing official MLB data sources and rebuilding a reference document by hand, combining statistics in Word and Adobe InDesign over more than four hours each game day.

It was accurate, but slow — and it consumed marketing resource time that could have gone toward storytelling, media strategy, and fan engagement. The team had wanted to automate it for nearly a decade.

The Solution

AXI met with the Guardians’ communications team to understand the manual workflow and what the automation needed to protect — speed, accuracy, and the team’s distinctive brand voice and visual identity.

The result is an automated system that pulls the latest official statistics, processes the complex data, and outputs fully formatted, on-brand Game Notes ready for review. The solution has since evolved to integrate directly with Major League Baseball’s proprietary Stats database. What once took over four hours of manual effort now requires less than fifteen minutes of human engagement to compile over 1,000 statistics — every one rendered in the Guardians’ colors, voice, and visual identity.

Beyond aggregating each game day’s data, the solution maintains persistence for specific stats and editorial blurbs, and gives staff a secure portal to manage content, trigger the automation, and review output. AXI delivered the tailored portal in under 72 hours.
